Transport and Accommodation
The event will start in the vicinity of South Queensferry, in the shadow of the Forth road and rail bridges, around 7 miles from central Edinburgh. South Queensferry is where you will swim and is where you will rack your bike. Registration will take place in central Edinburgh the day before the event (Friday, 31st May)
Edinburgh is the main hub for arriving transport and is accessible by rail, major road and air connections. The Start on Saturday 1st June will be early for all classes and participants should aim to rack their bikes 1 hour prior to their start time and arrive at the Swim Assembly area 20 minutes prior to the start for a briefing.
Accommodation options are wide and varied in Edinburgh, with good taxi services to get you to the transition in the morning. Alternatively there are hotel options in the South Queensferry area.
There will be a bus transit operating with pick-ups in Fort William and the Isles of Glencoe Hotel on the morning following the event. (For both Expert and Challengers). This bus is pre-bookable and will take yourself, your gear and your bikes back to the Parking area at South Queensferry.
We will provide a parking option for those who wish to leave their vehicles at South Queensferry for the duration of the event. This will be an unsecured facility and vehicles will be left at the risk of the owner.
For those who wish to drive a vehicle to Glencoe and leave it here so they may drive away after the event, we are also offering an option whereby you may leave a vehicle at Glencoe and return to South Queensferry or Edinburgh on a bus on Friday 31st May.
For those wanting to bed down once they’ve finished their epic journey, your main options are to book some local accommodation in Fort William or the Glencoe area, or to take up our accommodation option at the Isles of Glencoe Hotel, right next to the bikes transition (some 17 miles by road from the finish-line). We will have a free shuttle operating for those who book rooms at Glencoe and a free shuttle operating into Fort William too. Please note that, particularly for the Experts, a Finish line arrival in the early hours of the morning is possible, so you should consider your accommodation choice wisely and if you decide to book something independently, please ensure the accommodation provider will be available to check you in at such a time. For the Isles of Glencoe option, late check-ins will be available throughout the night and early hours.
Given both the Start line area around Edinburgh and the finish line around Glencoe/ Fort William are both popular tourist areas, there is a whole host of accommodation options at both the start and finish. For Experts wanting to get back to their bike for onward travel after the event, or for Challengers who may not fancy the camping option we have laid on for the Saturday night, there is the option to stay at the superb Isles of Glencoe Hotel, right next to the Bike transition in Glencoe. This is priced at £60pp based on 2 sharing (£120 for a Twin or Dbl).
Within your entry fee, camping is included for Challengers in Glencoe. There will be hot showers, a bar and catering options. More info is contained in the Challenger Category section. Click HERE to go there.
